A Pet’s Prayer
by Beth Norman Harris

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more
grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand
between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me
the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must
know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting
ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated
animal, no longer used to the elements.  And I ask no greater glory than the
privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.  Though, had you no home,
I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest
pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your
devoted worshipper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you
were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your
bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect
you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my
health or my sight, do not turn me away from you.  Rather, hold me gently in
your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest --- and
I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest
in your hands.

                                      FLINT

                       March 25, 1990  to  November 11, 1997

Flint was the sunshine in my life and the stars that twinkled beside me as I typed at night. To him I say, "You loved me unconditionally. You gave so much and asked for so little.  I love you."

                                     ROMMEL

Rommy was a  6 month old rescue dog that had been shot by his former owners and left in a fenced in yard.  Luckily, caring neighbors found him and brought him to the Vet.  He was put up for adoption and although several families were interviewed, we were blessed to be chosen to be Rommy's new family.

Rommy loved to be with me while I did my gardening.   He was my best friend for 13 years.  When he died, we buried him under his favorite tree in our yard.  Not a day goes by that I don't miss him.

                                             Love,
                                                 Mara

                                                DAISY

Daisy was our beloved pet, more like my baby for 13 years.  She was playful, protective and loving.  It was sad to see her grow old and know that our time together would not be much longer.  I held her as the Vet put her to sleep.  She died knowing that she was loved and cared for always.

                     THE RUSSELL FAMILY

Sometimes when we love our pets, we don't feel they should be seperated in death.  They should join the family waiting on the other side of the rainbow bridge.  They should jump, run, and play in a painfree world as they wait our crossing over.  These are the family of beloved pets which await my crossing over to be with them once more.
