A Pet’s Prayer
by Beth Norman Harris

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more
grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand
between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me
the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must
know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting
ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated
animal, no longer used to the elements.  And I ask no greater glory than the
privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.  Though, had you no home,
I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest
pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your
devoted worshipper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you
were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your
bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect
you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my
health or my sight, do not turn me away from you.  Rather, hold me gently in
your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest --- and
I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest
in your hands.

                                Zoonie Wilson

                                      2-12-84  to  2-17-98

Zoonie in Japanese means "friend." My Zoonie was more than a friend, she was a daughter to me for fourteen years.

Zoonie loved to eat, be with her mommy and canine brother and sisters. Riding in the car was something she adored.  Every day she went to work with me, we were always together. She
enjoyed her walks in the park, where she would greet people with her special sweetness.  Everyone who knew Zoonie, fell in love with her.

Zoonie, my friend, my daughter, you will always remain forever in my heart and my life.  You are only asleep and some day, we will be together again.

                          Your mommy loves you Zoonie

                           THE BEST FAMILY

                               Dum Dum   1969  to 1978
Dum Dum was a loving and wonderful beloved poodle.  She was loyal and a great companion.  Dum Dum was given to me by my father-in-law.

                               Patches  1977  to 1992
Patches was a Sheltie who looked so much like a miniature Lassie with her beautiful face.  She was given to me by my husband.  Patches was a very smart and loving companion.  I miss her perky trot and the hours of joy she gave me.

                                 Amaretto  1980  to  1996

Amaretto was another beautiful and loving Sheltie who looked very much like Lassie.  She was also was given to me by my husband.  I miss the hours of pleasure and companionship she gave to me.

                                 Brandy  1971 to  unknown

Brandy was a black Belgian Shepherd who belonged to my husband before we were married.  He was a very loyal and loving dog.  He "adopted"  Dum Dum as his baby and protected her at all times.  Circumstances were such that we had to move to an apartment which would not allow us to take Brandy with us.  Although he had a good home, I feel he grieved himself to death when he was seperated from Dum Dum.

                              My babies, rest in peace,

                                  KittyFeets

                          May 1995   to   November 17, 1997

"Meezer" was a playful and tuned into my emotions, just as I was hers.  Her blue eyes were so expressive that I always knew  just what she wanted or was trying to communicate to me.

She was only two years old when she swallowed some thread.  This seemingly harmless act, cost her, her life.  She was operated on to remove the thread but the thread had been inside her for several days.  She went into toxic shock after the operation and died the next morning.

I love you Kitty, you will always have a place in my heart and soul.
                                          Shelley

                                      Buffy

                                            1985   to  1998

Buffy was a joyous apricot poodle.  She was a great companion and when my husband died last year, she became my closest friend.  Always there with me, always ready to play or just lay her sympathetic head on my lap and give me doggy kisses.

I know that 13 years is a long life but they seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.  You were a little ball of fur one minute and a grownup dog the next.  I hope you are with your Daddy in heaven and that you will both be there to greet me when it's my turn to cross over the rainbow bridge.

I miss you my sweet little Buffer and will always love you.

                                         #3

#3 was full of personality. He would always come into
bed for his scratches and give us his goodnight purr.He will dearly be missed.

With love we send him to a peaceful place. So long good friend.

                               DUNCAN

                                      1990   to   1998

Duncan was more than a beautiful and loving Boxer dog, he was my son and my friend.  He could always sense my emotions and was always there for me with his unconditional love.  He was one of my "boys" and the brother to Bubba.

Duncan's heart gave out and he passed over the rainbow bridge.  I know he will be waiting on the other side when it is my turn to cross over and we will have a joyous reunion full of hugs, kisses and doggy licks.

I will always remember you, love you, and miss you,
